Check into your local utility companies to see if they offer any rebates for updates to your home or appliances. We got rebate from the electric co. when purchasing our energy efficient washer/dryer. I know our gas company also offers rebates for energy efficient gas dryers, but ours is electric.

We also just had our attic insulation increased and are awaiting a rebate for about 70% of the amount from the gas co. Our house is only 10 years old, so we only qualified for 1 rebate, but people in our area with older houses usually qualify for one from the gas and electric company both and don't pay anything.

The insulation companies are going door-to-door and mailing out stuff about these rebates in our area because it gets them more work and the customer hardly pays anything.
