I made my own laundry soap today which I have been doing for quite awhile. I knew I was saving money but never figured it all out. I did today. I am paying approximently $1.54 per gallon of laundry soap and 15 minutes of time, to make my own. Compared to name brand at around $11.99 a gallon that is a huge savings. I saved $41.80 per homemade batch of Laundry soap. Yeah!!!!!!!!!! That is great cause we have a lot of laundry in our house.

That's great!!! Another way to save on laundry soap is to only use a small fraction of the recommeneded amount. This was actually told to me by my washer repair man. He said that just a few drops works as well and really saves wear on your machine.

Here it is:

2 Bar of Lever Soap (I have used coast and dial, but lever works better)
1 cup of Borax (20 Mule Team)
2 cups of Washing Soda (Arm & Hammer)
5 gallon bucket with lid

Using a grater or knife shred the bars of soap. Boil 8 cups of water after water is boiling slowly add shredded soap. Becareful it don't boil over it will quickly. Reduce heat and stir until soap shavings have dissolved, continue stirring for about 5 minutes or so.

Put 3 gallons of water in bucket, add borax and washing soda, STIR. Add soapy hot water to bucket and stir. Cover and let sit for 24 hour. Usually the water and soap will mead together a lot sooner. I use about 1 cup per load. I have a standard washer. I got the recipe from the website. Simpledollar.com just type in the search bar Homemade Laundry soap. I have modified it some to suit me and the way my water reacts to it.

I saw that family on tv with 18 kids making this soap. It did not look too hard and they said they saved tons of money making it. I've been thinking about trying it out.

It only takes about 15 minutes to make and it doesn't have any foam to it so I think a HE washer would be okay. I don't know for sure cause I have just a regular old washer. Where I got the original recipe it said that it was okay for your type of washer. I got the recipe from Simpledollar .com I have made my own modifications though. With there recipe it was to watery.
