I am not a lover of pawn shops but DH LOVES them and I have to admit, we've picked up some pretty good deals.

Both my mountain bike and my road bike (both Treks) came from a pawn shop.
Movies and C.D.s can be a great buy.

Anyone else?

I've never found anything in a pawn shop, but my neighbor bought his girls each a Nintendo DS and paid $60 apiece for them.

I don't think I've ever been in a pawn shop I don't even know where there IS a pawn shop. I asked DH if he knew and he said the only one he knew about was in a really bad part of town and the only reason he knew that was because it was on the news with something bad happening there.

I've never been in one either but every time I'm in a casino town, I see them near the casinos. I always say I should go in and check out the jewelry to see if there is anything good. Can you imagine the people pawning their jewelry to go hit the slots and strike it rich?

In California, the ones I've seen, are pretty nasty and I would fear for my life to go into them , but the ones in Idaho and Washington, seem a little better quality. There also is Pawn 1 which seems to be a chain of them and they keep them clean and safe ... I've never even seen bars on the windows there.

I get some great things at the local pawn shop. Wii with 3 controllers and 2 games for $100. Other Wii games for $15. TomTom (GPS) for $40. They also have movies, CD's, games, jewelry, etc.

My husband has looked at tools at the pawn shop but it is a sketchy looking place so I don't go there by myself.

They actually have a pretty nice collection of jewelry as well. They shine it up, or whatever they do with jewelry, I thought they actually brought in new stuff until they explained to me that it was all stuff that people pawned. I actually found a wrap to my wedding ring that I wish I had bought at the time but didn't because I thought it was something they always carried. Oh well.

dh bought a table saw at the pawn shop for &40...just needed a new blade and it works great.
he has also bought dvd's for $2 each and they all work fine.

ds and dd bought buy games for their DS there a lot...usually $5-10 each. ds bought a used x-box controller for his sister to use two weeks ago for $15 and it works great too.
