Just thought I would share this tip I tried: I bought a large box of baking soda and mixed an equal amount of powdered dishwasher detergent in with it. When I do dishes I use the same amount in the dishwasher but it uses much less detergent and my dishes have come out just as clean.

I actually made my own today. This is the second batch that I have made. I also use Vinegar in place of the name brand jet dry. Works great. I took a bar of white bar soap, grated it, added it to a 1/2 gallon of boiling water and stirred until the soap flakes where dissolved. I then let it cool down some and added a little of the Arm & Hammer Washing Soda to it to thicken it up. I also have a recipe for dry dishwasher soap. It is a mixture of 2 cups of borax and 2 cups of washing soda. Haven't tried that though I like the gel.
