I really dislike shopping at Walmart. I never shop for groceries there. I would far rather support the grocery store within walking distance of home, plus the prices are better at the grocery store.
I am really unhappy about how they are tearing out a nice mall with unique stores to expand a Walmart that will sell exactly the same stuff that all the other Walmarts in the area are selling (and there are far too many of them around here!)

Every time I go into Walmart I spend more than I wanted to and wind up with things I did not really need. I've been trying to avoid it at all costs lately and being a little more frugal...I'm learning alot from you guys... THANKS!! , couponing, spending freeze, don't throw that away.... great threads!!!

It really matters on what I'm buying and if I stick to the list. Half the time I never spend less then $100.

WalMart is 2 miles from my home
HEB is 5 miles from my home
Target is 30 miles from my home (its just a regular Target, no groceries)
HEB is always out of everything, I usually end up shopping at WalMart and price matching for most things. I'm pretty good at only buying whats on my list.

Walmart does save me money. Our local, small town grocery store costs twice as much as Walmart. BUT, I am so afraid Walmart will be the last one standing that I try not to shop there. Now that I don't need to buy diapers, I have no actual NEED that I can only get at Walmart. My brother-in-law owns our local grocery store and my husband is big on shopping in town, so I try my best to stay in town to shop and buy things on sale with coupons as much as possible.

I try not to go to Walmart. It is way to crowded, out of my way and I spend way more than I should. I try to stick to the grocery stores that are closer to me and do all the BOGO plus coupons. I hit the thrift stores before I have to get anything like clothes and such. I only go to Walmart if I have no other choice. Just don't care for Walmart at all. Highly overrated. I don't go to Target either.

I am the same way..come out with more than I went in for. I am not too close to a Walmart, so I only go in about once every month or two, unless I find a great advertised special. When they have sales they are VERY good. I have also heard the negative press about them and feel like I should not support them so much!

It does for a few things I buy. I'm really not a fan of WalMart, but I do go there for a few specific things. I keep a pricebook, so when I am at WalMart, I can compare with a glance, if their prices are better than say Costco or Target per oz etc

Maybe, but DH and I are totally anti walmart, so we do not shop there at all. If I go to Kroger and combine with coupons, it sure is cheap.

Just started grocery shopping there and much to my dismay I think we do save considerable $$. DH and I are actually going to do a detailed cost comparison to prove it... and hopefully whittle it down to the items we really save on. I don't like Walmart much, don't think much of their business practices and at certain times, I cannot deal with the crowds there, but if it can help us pare down our grocery budget in these challenging times, we'll find the best time to go there and suck it up. I did make DH promise to go with me!
Everything I can't get there I'll get at a local store that gives the best gas incentives!
