Do you ever use the lifetime guarantee? I know a lot of places, especially on clothing, advertise them. Have you ever taken advantage of them? Is there a bit of an ethical challenge on them?

I know (and this has been a long time and maybe this offer no longer exists) WalMart use to have a lifetime guarantee on shoes. One time a woman returned her son's shoes, shoes that obviously had been well worn by the boy, they were covered in mud, and wanted a new pair. Actually she got a new pair. Which to me didn't seem right but the offer of a lifetime guarantee stood and she took advantage of it. And I'm sure, in the long run, that WalMart made more money than they lost on the thing overall.

What do you think?

I have replaced broken Tupperware in the past, and I have also returned a Jansport backpack (years ago) to be repaired.

IMO you pay more for most products that come with a lifetime guarantee and if the product was in fact damaged during NORMAL use, then you are certainly within your rights to use it. I also know that a lot of people take advantage of the guarantee (by using it outside of the way it was intended), which in turn makes things more expensive for everyone.

I have replaced Tupperware also. Other than that, no. I figure with most things, it would be more trouble than its worth, especially if it is an older item.

I have several Coach handbags & I have used the lifetime wty with them.
It's usually been a zipper that wears out.

Coach is great to honor their wty.

I do for Bath and Bodyworks. I guess if anything breaks I contact the company or return it depending on the time frame.

I wouldn't return worn out muddy shoes.

dh has taken advantage of the Craftsman warranty on his tools. On the rare occasion that something breaks, he just take it in and gets a brand new one.

I should probably pay closer attention to the thing I have with a lifetime warranty, could save me some money!

I have never used them, they have the kid advantage at Sears and I have never used it, I forget where i bought the item from when I need to get it fixed! I had my vacum fixed through the warantee, it was less that one year. I like Best buys warantee I used that once, they just replace the item instead of fixing it.
