Don't do it. Bacteria can grow on the clothing while it is wet and waiting for you. I have a front loader and put vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser for every wash to disinfect and avoid the sour smell.

I hate to leave clothes in the wash overnight, but sometimes it does happen. I always have to re-wash, but add in 1/2 cup of baking soda to the clothes and it always gets the sour smell out.

no, I put it out to dry as soon as it's done, I usually do laundry in the early mornings before school.

Not anymore. I have a friend on another forum that did that a few too many times. She had to replace ALL of her clothes and she had six kids. ARRGGH! I can't afford that so I don't do that. Now the dryer is another thing!

This happens at our house mostly with dark towels. Teenagers try to help and put the towels in the dryer. You really don't notice at that point until you wet them again to wash. Then Holy cow do they stink!!!!

My Mom shared her timeless tip.

Add 1-2 cups of white vinegar to the load and run the cycle with detergent again.

It really works.

I do it all the time! I'll put a load in when I can and when I remember than I'll stick it in the dryer. One thing that helps on the smell is, if you not going to be drying it right away, open the door of your washer and for some reason it doesn't stink the next morning!
