When you first open up a checking account you are required to order checks through your bank which can cost anywhere from $20-$40.

Upon using that first box of checks up do you continue to order your checks through your bank or do you take advantage of the many advertised specials that are offered in almost every magazine, coupon flyers, newspapers?

I never buy them from the bank, and when I opened my account a million moons ago, I wasn't required to buy any from them. Weird. I've never heard of that!

I don't have to order them very often, but the last few times I ordered them, I got them from Colorful Images (the plainest cheapest ones they carry LOL). They used to be less than $10 per box, but I just checked now and the cheapest ones are $9.99 a box (2 boxes for $16.99).

Not all banks require you to order your first set of checks through them. Many just automatically order the first set for you unless you tell them not to.
I order my checks through Check Gallery. They're printed on recycled paper using soy ink, and they have certain designs that part of the sales proceeds go to animal welfare organizations, disease research, etc. I think I paid about $18 including shipping for my last box. Since I only use checks for mailing certain bills, one box lasts me quite a while.

I take advantage of the sales and order from a different check business each time I run out. Sometimes I forget and order from a place I have already used and I end up paying the difference but it is still cheaper than ordering from my bank.

Our banks gives them to us for free .. as many as we want. I order them in packs of 200 and have never paid once.

I didn't know you had to pay! I know there are upgraded fancy ones that people can pay for but for basic cheques (how we spell it in Canada) we've never had to pay a cent.

We bank with President's Choice Financial. I'm not sure how it works with other banks in Canada.

My first box from my bank was free. After that it is like $18 but I am not sure how many you get. I would order for another source if it was cheaper.

I couldn't tell you because we've been using the same checks we ordered when we moved to CA in 2005.
