When did your kids stop using kids plates (you know the hard plastic ones with the character design on them) and started using regular dinner plates?

My daughter just turned six and I would be perfectly comfortable with her using our regular dinner plates. But my son is two, not so comfortable with him, and DD will probably continue to use them for as long as he is or at least until she gets tired of them. Who knows when that will be.

My SIL still has a couple of my niece's and she's almost 17. Though maybe that is because my children visit from time to time.

We never used character plates...my kids were just never interested in any characters for plates/clothing/gear etc I had some plain plastic plates that I used when the kids were in high chairs. When they were in regular chairs though, they got our regular china/porcelain plates.

We haven't ever had a problem. I don't have any plastic plates/cups at all in my house. We entertain frequently and have family/friends with kids over all the time...and there haven't been any issues/breakage.

We have a few plastic plates, ds (3.5) will still use them for lunch unless I am heating up leftovers for him and then he uses a regular plate. He will use a plastic bowl for cold cereal in the morning, but a regular bowl for oatmeal.

For dinner, he uses a regular plate, salad plate size. He also usually uses a glass instead of a plastic cup and regular utensils.

I would gave gotten rid of most of the plastic dishes by now, but am holding onto them for a couple more years until this babe is 2 or so.

My youngest is 3 and he still uses a plastic plate. He has accidently knocked his plate on the floor a couple times and I do not want him doing that with my grandmother's 50 year old china.

DS likes to put his plates in the sink all by himself. As he is way shorter than the sink he just slides them in. Works great unless Daddy leaves his ice cream bowl out and DS, my little helper, grabs it and slides it into the sink. Yep, that bowl is now a goner.

DS#1 used those vintage 3-section tupperware plate/ bowl with the lids that can be used as plates themselves...come on you ladies know what I mean LOL! Anyway, DS#1 used those for longer than he needed to but I had a horrible problem with over-babying him LOL! DS#2 has been using regualar dishes and glasses for a few years already! I still have those vintage tupperware plates and DS#2 uses them all the time when we eat outdoors.

These aren't THE tupperware (I don't think they're even tupperware) ones I'm talking about but they look sort of the same but mine are the lovely orange, yellow, green and brown from back in the day.

He even brings the plates to the kitchen when he's thru.
