Default Would you hire an interior decorator to come to your home?

I don't think I would do it for our personal home. But for our business home (which we haven't done yet) I am thinking about it. But then I'm also thinking, is there anyone where I live that actually does this sort of thing. And, what if I don't like what they design?

Any experiences with an interior designer coming to your home?

I wouldn't do it for our house...they would probably laugh with all of the kid's stuff we have around the house. I don't know if we have anyone that does it locally either.

My sister used one when she had a massive remodel (new kitchen/family room redo, master bedroom size doubled w/ added master bath, closet). She could have never sorted through all the flooring, tile, bath options and all that on her own. Granite counters, cabinetry, etc. Everything was beautiful. I have no eye for design. We are currently getting our sofa & 2 living room chairs reupholstered. I got the estimates for the work and was pouring thru books of fabric & realized I cannot match colors/styles/textures, etc. Then I got a thing in the mail from a local fabric/design center, Calico Corners, and it was a coupon for a discount on purchases and FREE in home design consultation w/ a designer.

I called - met the designer at the store, she came to my home & looked at what we had, talked about what I liked. Showed her the samples I picked from the book for ideas of our style. She noted the colors in our oriental rugs, artwork, etc. She then went to the store & took a week to pull a bunch of fabrics. We met her at the store & looked at those & took home large samples to consider & look at in our own light. I ended up w/ 2 of the fabrics she picked & one I picked at the store. She then came & looked at those & recommended putting the one I chose for the couch on a chair, and vice versa. We then bought all our fabric with the discount & I have the fabric at home. Now I can take my time & get each piece recovered w/ the fabric I bought, thus stretching out the costs to fit my budget.

She was great - and she was free!
