Does anyone do it? Not online but in real life.
Like I can (insert a service you can provide - child care, mending, tax prep, etc.) if you can (insert service you need - car repair, computer repair, etc.)

We try to when we can. DH recently traded some video games for a new to us TV. Over the summer he helped someone work on their car in return that person helped him work on his car.

I'm just wondering if this is making more of a come back now that times are harder for all of us.

I bartered with my neighbor if I drop off my son two-threemornings a week and she gets him to before care, I pick up her son and mine a few afternoons. It helps us both out

In a way. The house and 5 acres next to me is owned by a church but sits vacant. I cleaned up the fallen branches so that someone could mow and in return was allowed to gather as much pine straw as I wanted for my shrub and garden beds.

Absolutely. DH does side work trimming/cutting down trees (real work is same, but by powerlines). He did a job this weekend to cut down a small tree by a house, and in return we got an entire set of those Southwestern learning "Ask Me" books ( Amazon.com: The Southwestern Company - The "Ask Me Why" 12 Books Series (Ask Me Why, 12 books in volume): by Southwestern Company "Ask Me Why" 12 volume books, Book 1-Who used chocolate for money: Books ). The guy actually came to our house as a door to door salesman, but after chatting and finding out what DH did, he offered to trade the books (which I like) for that small tree.

We also received a new big side by side fridge, a big offset smoker/grill, chainsaw, and a bunch of other stuff for more tree work by DH. If it's something we can really use, then DH will consider trades.

I pick my friends (who is a daycare provider) daughter up from preschool 2-3 times/week. In return, she watches my children when I need her to. It works out great for both of us!
