I like to give them too but usually it's for someone I know will appreciate it. Like my dad who can buy whatever. I usually get him WaWa g/c's. He loves them!

I too, love to receive them. I only typically give them on birthdays or if someone requests them for christmas. But when asked what I'd like, and I can't think of anything, I jsut pick a store I would frequent and ask for a gift card there.
I usually have lists prepared, for Christmas, because everyone who buys for us, wants a list. Usually we get those things, and I'd be ok if that's ALL we got. Inevitably, someone we know (no names named) will get us what we need/want and then get a bunch of other crap that we will never use just for the sake of buying it. I still remember a year where someone who KNOWS AND IS RELATED TO DH bought him a spider man teeshirt. It was horrible. And ugly. And Dh doesn't even give two beans about spiderman. It still has the tag on it and is packed away somewhere. Thoughtless gifts are not worth giving. Just give me a GC instead.

This reminds me of last year or the year before. Every year, my inlaws buy my husband dress shirts. Last year, I said LOUD, in front of everyone, He really needs some jeans. Guess what he got for Christmas? Dress shirts. The same people bought me size small, instead of medium for years. This year, only the kids are getting gifts, so hopefully, we won't go through this. I love giftcards, and never get them. If I don't know what to get someone, I just don't get them anything. Sometimes, I like to give plants to people (if I know they are plant people). It's something that lasts, if it lives.

I love them! I like to gift them too, its easier, and they can get something they've been wanting.

I have so much stuff in my house already that needs to be weeded out. I prefer and love getting gift cards, especially to restaurants since I love to eat out but can seldom afford to, they are a treat. I also give them. My nephews like I-Tunes so they can down load their fav music. My son likes Live points for his X-Box or Gamestop cards for his gaming habit. Now they make non-specific Visa cift cards useable anywhere, including outside the country.
