Do you like them or hate them?
I like them in some cases. I'm a big fan of buying ones for children to bookstores. I also like buying grocery store ones for friends that might be down on hard times and I don't know what to get them.
I would never buy one of the VISA or Mastercard ones ... they have extra charges on them. And I've never ran across one that has expired.

I don't like them but it is better than getting a ceramic cookie jar that I'll never use.

I'm fine w/ them if the giver has shown some element of consideration. My half sister gives everyone visa check cards for every birthday. She does not take the time or interest to get to know any of us, and we have given her gifts that we've shopped carefully for since she was a baby, yet now that she's married, she couldn't tell you one thing about us.
I don't mind cards for a restaurant you might want me to try. I-tunes is about the only way to give music anymore. Movies are good too. If it's to a store, at least go to the store & buy the card to a store I like instead of the visa one.

I like to get them, but I've learned to be cautious about giving them to some people. I have a SIL who just won't use them, so it's really a waste of money.

I LOVE them!!! I've never understood people's dislike for them or people sticking their noses up over them. To me they are the PERFECT gift. In fact i prefer them. I can tell my mother 10 thousand times not to buy me anything that hangs on the wall, i've got enough pictures, wall hanging, etc. and every single year she gets me......something that hangs on the wall. You can never go wrong with a gift card.
I'm not a difficult person to buy for......get me scented candles and books and i'm good. Yet absolutely nobody in the family ever does.No matter how many times i give them a list of wants(that they have requested from me).I wish my family would just save themselves the headache of walking thru an overcrowded-germ infested-parking impossible-overpriced rip off of a store and just give me a gift card.
Yeah, can you tell i'm not a huge fan of Christmas? lol

I like them for baby showers and such. To gift them and get them. However when it comes to other holidays, I'd prefer a bag of useless items than a gift card. Because I don't want people to just go to the store purchase a gift card or online and that's as far as their time goes for gift purchasing. I find it sad
Oh I do think however if you gift a gift card along with a gift that is nice Such as popcorn, soda and special candy..and maybe a gift card to a local movie rental store....

I've got an ice cream maker that collected dust in my cabinets for 2 years.Christmas gift from my SIL, only i don't really like ice cream, so it sits wasted. It will probably end up in a rummage sale someday or given away to someone else. How sad is that?! So taking your time shopping doesn't always work out either.
Not that i'm a cold hearted b*tch, i graciously accepted it and thanked her.

I can only speak for myself, but I just prefer not to get them. I'd rather someone write me a letter, bake me a cake, take me to lunch or donate money in my name to a charity than get a gift card. I think they're impersonal. I like to get gifts with thought behind them, but that's me.
It's nothing about 'sticking my nose up about them'...although I'm not completely sure what that means? LMAO! *shrug* It's pretty simple, I just prefer not to get them.
I seem to receive them to stores I never shop at, and have no desire to shop at. So they end up collecting dust in my purse. I recently looked at bunch I have, to prepare to use them buy holiday gifts. Inevitably though, I will go to the store, and not find anything I want to give anyone else...or buy for myself. So I either give them away or donate them.
I'm not hard to shop for either - so to me, a gift card from close family members is a cop out. To you, a perfect gift. To each their own. JMO
