we cancelled cable and just have the over the air channels. DH had a hard time initially but got over it and the kids are fine. we get vids from the library, swapping with friends and the occassional free redbox dvd. a lot of networks have their shows on their websites so I don't really miss anything that I was into before and the few things that I don't see...well, I realized how much of a time suck the tv is now! Our family is a lot happier without it. The transition is hard but worth it for your family.

I am not saying that cable should come before food or shelter, but it would definitely be the last 'luxury' we would give up. I could give it up fairly easily, but DH would suffer. TV is truly our main entertainment-going out to eat is the second and we would give that up before DISH. DH works pretty much 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and his one indulgence is watching TV. He is a news and sports junkie. We live in a very rural area and are only able to get dial-up for the computer, so watching TV shows online is not an option.
Just out of curiosity, those of you who do watch TV shows online, if that was not an option, would you pay for cable again or do without totally?

I would try to catch up on all my bills before worrying about cable. It is a want, not a need. Hope things look up for you soon.

For those of you that use hulu, look at Fancast, that's where we find a lot of shows. Many networks have their shows on them too.

We'd have been going without well before my cable would be cut. My credit rating is too important to let things get to that level for TV and internet not to mention that there is all the backpay that is now owed. So I'd have to say that going without is what I would do.

Now I have to say this>> I have to agree with the other poster that pointed out that what you are doing is wrong with regards to still *having* internet...you're stealing something that someone else (your neighbour) is paying for. For their sake I hope you or anyone in your family aren't downloading stuff (even though they're being STUPID not having their internet signal protected with a password through their provider).
