Times have been tough here lately and we haven't been able to keep up with a few of our bills. Yesterday they came and turned off the cable which means we lost the internet and the telephone. I pick up a wireless connection on the laptop computer so it doesn't affect my internet use to much but not having a tv is strange. Not that I watched it much but everyone else does. If you were in my situation would you worry about getting the cable back on or would could you live with out it?

I agree!
There are more important things than cable!
Like a roof over your head and food
Don't worry, things will get better for you soon. I have faith

If it were a choice between cable and housing, or cable and food, (and it sounds like you're getting close to that line), then I'd say leave the cable of until you have enough left over after taking care of everything else to cover it.
I lived without cable until I was 40.

yeah, it sounds like cable isn't your biggest worry right now. Focus on the bigger picture to get everything else back on track.

Honestly, we have gone without Dish for over two years now, and we don't miss it. We shut it off at the beginning of the summer of '07 because we are usually so busy during summertime that it is completely pointless to pay for it, and we have yet to decide that we would rather spend the money ($60-65) each month to have it again. I have added it up and we have saved over $1600 by not having it.
So maybe this is an opportunity for you to make your lifestyle even more frugal and simple. I would view it as an experiment! If you have shows you watch regularly, catch them online instead!
Whatever money you would have put toward the cable bill (even if you couldn't pay the whole thing) can now be put towards something else or put into savings to better your current situation. Plus that's one less financial responsibility that you will have at the end of each month. You can focus on the more important things now and not have to worry about it getting shut off because it's already been done.
Also, you have done right in your prioritizing if this is the first thing to go when times are tough! I know it sounds weird for me to say it, but good for you! Keep your head up, things will get better.

My kids would not be happy but we could live without it. I agree with everyone else, cable is much less important than having food and housing.
I hope things will get better for you soon!

Sista, I am in the same boat as you.
They are threatening to turn it off.
I could live w/o it, as could my 3yo but the manchild, 38, would probably curl into the fetal position & click his heels saying "There's nothing like cable! There's nothing like cable"
If you can go with out, go with out.

There are many times I have thought about just turning mine off. We get a discount on our internet & cable by having both. So we just dropped down to the basic cable (10$ a month) & with the $15 discount we are better off. With Hulu - Watch your favorites. Anytime. For free. & so many other sites out there we really arent missing much. This way we save money & spend more time as a family instead of vegging out in frount of the TV. (Just dont ask how much time we spend on the computer though!)

I don't have wireless or a laptop, so to have the internet. I did need the internet for job hunting. Now, I am taking a little break from that, so we don't really NEED it. We have our house phone, cable, and internet all together. I know alot of people don't use house phones anymore, but I actually use mine. My cell phone is a prepaid one and I literally never use it. The minutes are good for a year, so I just save it. I just keep my cell phone in my purse when I go somewhere. We went without the computer for a week (virus). My son was ok, because he still had playstation and tv, and played outside. He is an only child, so he doesn't play outside much, when he is by himself. I am home ALL the time, so I do look forward to the few shows that I watch.
