Do you find it is tougher to save on household items when you work outside the home?

I do. During my stay-at-home days, I made almost everything from scratch and was able to do all the little tricks to keep my heating bill down (you know shutting off extra rooms, shutting the curtains). Now I only work part time out of the home but we also work from our room. Things are going here 24/7.

Sometimes I wonder if the part time job is even worth it.

I spent way more money when I worked. I went to a store almost daily. My job was right in town, by grocery stores, walmart, dollar stores, whatever. Now I stay home for days at time. I don't just run to the store for one thing. My electric never goes down except for when I can actually open some windows, like in Winter or Spring. I am in Florida, so the weather has to be cool to open windows. Otherwise too much bugs and humidity.

We both work full time + and lately we have not been spending hardly any money. It is not that hard. Meals just need to be simple.

Do you find it is tougher to save on household items when you work outside the home?

Actually I have just recently retired and become a SAHM. With my 17 yr old in school all day my schedule is clear and I find I probably spend more money now because I am not working 10-12 hour days plus commutes. Plus spending more time at the home pc am further tempted by on line deals. It was easier to save when I just came home after a long day at work made dinner and went to bed.

In some ways I spend more now that I work full time but in some ways I spend less than when I was a SAHW(ife).

I spend more on food now, because I often have fast food for dinner at work or order meals from the kitchen (which come out of our paycheck). After I get home from work I just want something easy so we eat a lot more prepared and convieniece food than we used to. When I was home I cooked more from scratch and cooked large batches of food that we could eat more than one day from.

In other areas I spend less. When I was at home sometimes I'd get bored and just go drive around for a while, and I frequently stopped at the mall or other stores. Now my car is strictly for work and I have a short commute, plus I don't go shopping like I used to.
