Is Winter or Summer more expensive to live for your family?

We live in the south and I would say summer, because our electric bill is higher in the summer than the winter. Plus in the summer it rains so much that I can't use my clothes line as much, so I use the dryer.

How about your family???

Since we use propane for heat, and our house apparently completely lacks insulation, yup. We spend about $5000 a winter on propane. Fun.

Heehee ~ this is us too Booker. Except we use fuel oil and only spend about $2500-3000 (obvioulsy depending on the current price). Our house is so old, DH thinks there's probably still straw in 1/2 the walls

WINTER definately!!!

When we pulled off one room of the house to expand, they had used NEWSPAPER. Kinda fun reading old ads from the '30-40s!

Without a doubt, it would be winter. The natural gas bill is usually pretty high once January and February roll around.

Definately winter. Propane bill, more electricity to run the furnace, dryer, all the appliances since everyone is inside more, tend to spend more money on non-necessity items like going to the movies, out to dinner, etc because of the cooped up in the house feeling. We still spend lots of time outside sledding, building snow forts, etc but then there is all the winter gear to keep up with. And the snowmobile habit.

Summer is crazy expensive where we live. The electricity bills combined with the water bills (due to having to water the lawn) make for a pricey season.

Us too. The winter is usually really reasonably priced, because we use our heater for maybe 2 months, and that' just because I like to be warm. We could probably do without it for a couple of those weeks. Even then, we have natural gas heat, and that bill is really cheap.
Electric bill in the summer is wayyyy worse. And even then, relatively good. Water does go up in the summer too, because we fill up a kiddie pool a few times a week for the dog (used to be dogs ). And we usually have a garden, so watering that adds up too.

It sure is.
1) Heating is a must for approx 6 months out of the year!!
2) Clothing expenses
3) Larger grocery bills
4) Higher gas bills for the car
5) Winter car maintenance
6) Snow removal fees
7) Winter activites and the toys *can* be pricey...there are also ++ things to do that are free though.
