We put new laminate hardwood in our living room. I need an accent color but i don't have a clue. Anyone have any good ideas. It would be for the couch pillows and an area rug. Our furniture is tan and our walls are a darker tan. The trim around the doors and flooring is a really dark brown. I have dark purple as the accent color now but i want to change it up some!

TIA!

Jen

Red!!! A really rich red! I think that would look very cool!

I agree red would be really cool too. Appearently Yellow (or some type of a yellow color) is also the BIG thing in colors right now ~

And that is the color i was thinking. So, here is my next question. If i go red, would that look stupid with the other color in my house. I used the same color for accents in every room - the dark purple. My dining room walls are the dark purple. My living room is right off my dining room.

I think so too. They are both rich jewel tones you see quite often together

Well, that seems to be the consensus...I was going to say red, as well. I think that it will be fine with your dining room color, too.

a dark bluish red and royal purple are colors often associated with royalty...(but if you get the red wrong--too light--it'll look like a "red hat" lady exploded in your living room! )

i vote for deep red and purple!

I agree w/ Ruby, it needs to be a bluish red, not an orangey red to flow w/ the purple! I think it will be fine w/ the purple in the rest of your house!

(Now to get the image of the exploded red hat lady out of my head... )

At first I was going to say a wine-y plum-y sort of color, but then I finished reading the post and saw that's what you already have, my next thought was red, but now I'm wondering if you wouldn't want to go with a lighter color since it sounds like there's a lot of dark already. Still thinking about it....
