I am SOOOO excited. I am finally gonna tear out the icky old wallpapered paneling that is in our kitchen. I was waiting for Dh to give me the go ahead - he wanted to wait until spring - and I guess the itch finally hit him. :yay!:

I am also off to Home Depot to buy my paint & primer for the dining room (painting over old wood paneling -worried- ) so hopefully that will turn out well.

Finally - we can start turning this house into our own!!!

If your wood paneling isn't treated/sealed, you'll probably have to prime it with a wood sealer type product. Ask at Home Depot about it. If you don't, the paint will seep into the grain and you'll put coat after coat on, and it'll get funky. The primer will seal it up and you can paint a smooth coat, no strange results.

I do have a primer that was recommended. I have also tried it on an extra piece of paneling from the basement and it's turned out rather nicely. I do have to say though - HOLY COW with the primer and everything for it sure increases the expense.

I started tearing the icky wallpaper paneling down from the kitchen - OK - will be harder than it looks. Not to mention there I now see some funky wallpaper UNDER the paneling.

WHAT ON EARTH WERE THESE PEOPLE THINKING?? Happymom - I may take you up on the demo assistance We may be demo-ing more than we thought.

Call a rental place to see if they have a wall paper steamer for rent. They usually rent pretty cheap, and they work!! As for painting paneling, as long as you use the primer, it isn't bad at all...just stinky. I did my entire downstairs in Alabama...and i LOVED the results. It brightened it up so much.
That said, I am sure glad I am not in YOUR shoes right now. What a huge project! Just keep the end goal in sight when you want to kill dh for giving that go ahead! LOL Good luck...and post pictures..both before and after!
