I feel your pain. Getting organized is overwhelming. I just tackled my desk and shelves in the declutter challenge and that took me a week! Finally what I had to do was start with a small area (like the top of my desk), take *everything* off it except the computer, and put it in a box. I cleaned my desk, admired it in its "clean" state", then started going through the box one item at a time. If the kids interrupted me, I put the box away so they couldn't get into it. If I started to feel overwhelmed, tired, slack-I put the box away and waited until I felt fresh again on another day. I got rid of a lot of stuff because I liked the desk's clean look. Then I moved on to the shelves and did the same.

Check out the declutter challenge in Simple living. A lot of the ladies had good ideas.
