I really do like white vinegar and water as a window cleaner, and also as an all-purpose cleaner. No chemicals, just me and a spray bottle.

Make a paste out of baking soda and water and set it on stains on the counter. After a few minutes, rub with a cloth. Works most of the time.

I mix vinegar and water in a spray bottle and use that to clean pretty much everything--windows, countertops, bathrooms, etc.

I use a mix of olive or vegetable oil with a few drops of lemon oil to polish wood furniture.

I sprinkle baking soda on carpets before I vacuum to deoderize them.

I use what vioburn does to clean my oven and you don't have the
awful smell of oven cleaners and it does work.

I had to wait until our all-purpose cleaner was gone to make some homemade cleaner. It's finally empty!

To make the general cleaner (with vinegar and water), how much of each goes into the cleaner? Is it one part vinegar to one part water?? Thanks for the help!

I started using vinegar for many things......in my mop bucket, as a rinse/cleaner for the dishwasher and washer.....shower cleaner.....washing windows.....washing out water spots on faucets (makes them sparkle)....

And for the oven, I have a self-cleaning oven, so I don't need to do anything but turn it on and wait and wipe down, no sprays or cleaners needed.....

Clean House, Clean Planet by Karen Logan is an excellent resource for making your own cleaning products at home. They are all very simple and only require a few ingredients. I never realized how unsafe the commercial cleaners are that most of us buy. A friend of mine recommended this book to me and I really like it. I picked it up from our local library, but I want to buy it so I have it on hand for reference. I usually don't buy books, but this is a good one. I'm going to check out our local Half Price Book Store or wait until I get a % off coupon for Borders or B&N.

For many years, I have been making my own window cleaner out of equal parts vinegar and alcohol. It works better than any commercial product that I've ever tried.
