My hubby is hardly ever home at supper time so his meal has to be put in the fridge til he gets home. I just put it on the plate and cover it with plastic wrap, so it just needs to be popped in the microwave and it's ready for him. It seems like such a waste of money to use the wrap for a few hours and then it goes in the garbage but I need to keep his food from getting all dried out and gros! Got any suggestions for safely storing his supper while saving on cost, and time? Thanks.

I use cereal box liners to cover food in the micro. I would think they would work fine for the fridge and straight to micro. Of course this only helps if you buy boxed cereal

I do by cereal. Actually I just finished up a box of cereal today. Do you wash the liner out before you use it and do you re-use them?

I've used shower caps before. They work pretty good. I also buy the food service size plastic wrap from BJs or Sams and keep it on top of my fridge so it is always available. It only costs about 3 times the cost of normal sized plastic wrap and mine has lasted over 3 years. I use it all the time!

I don't know if they are on the market anymore, I've been reusing the ones I have for so long, but I like the Saran Quick Covers... they look like a shower cap but clear! I just wash them and reuse, the plastic is really strong so they last forever unlike Saran Wrap... I went to the website and couldn't find anything about them, so I'm afraid they are discontinued, making this post totally pointless

Another idea maybe look in the food storage container section at Walmart or Target... you might be able to find plates that have a snap on cover - that way you can just wash and reuse, and husband can eat right off the plate it's stored in rather than putting it in a standard storage container and having to transfer it back to a plate and dirty more dishes.

I wipe them down with a papertowl just to "dust" off the powder at the the bottom!

Buying the industrial size is a good idea but I personaly have no where to store it, and my fridge is too tall. I sometimes reuse depends on how clean it is after I have microwaved something!

At the dollar store you can get those covers to microwave food. You put them over the plate to heat them up so your microwave doesn't get all messy.I use those.

I use a Tupperware cake container. I turn the bottom part upside down over the plate. Its about 4 -5 inches high so it fits over almost everything. I just store it in the microwave that way it gets used. When I used to put it away no one bothered getting it out and I was forever cleaning the splatters up in the microwave.

Thanks ladies for the suggestions. I'll check around here (Canada) and see if the still sell the Saran Quick Covers, they would probably be the easiest. The plates with the snap on covers would be good too. We have Walmart here but no Target, Sam's or B.Js ! I should check out the industrial size box, I guess, but I'm not sure where I could store it...very small kitchen?

The Quick Covers were discontinued I searched all over for osme yesterday because mine had fianlly had it after about 2-3 years. The company said they wern't selling enough of them. I've seen knock off versions here and there, but I can't remember where. I'd love to find more instead of using plastic wrap.
