At the doctor's office I recently picked up this tip:

For any medication, sunscreen, lotion, diaper ointment... anything at all that comes in a tube..... when you think the tube is empty, cut it open!!!

The receptionist told me there would be a ton left inside, but I was skeptical. Well, today we finished a tube of sunscreen. I squeezed it and shook it and was convinced it was empty. Just for fun I decided to cut it open and see what was left. I was so surprised- no, SHOCKED- at how much lotion was still in the tube. Probably enough for two kids and myself for another 3-4-5 trips to the pool. It was *a lot*.

I am cutting my tubes open from now on.

Same thing applies for all the creams that are in pumps. I always cut them and still have some cream for many days.

When I was newly divorced I was so poor - I was running out of everything and was not going to be paid for another week. In a moment of desperation I cut open a tube of toothpaste to see if I could scrape a little out - there was enough in that tube to last me a whole week! I started doing it with everything I could cut open.

I have been "cutting the tubes" forever, it is surprising how much is usually left in them

I always cut the toothpaste tube. My mom taught me that trick when I was a kid. And the hand lotion tubes. When I buy land lotion from Bath and Body Works, the tubes are clear and you can see the lotion, but you can't get to it. So, I always cut off the end and can use it for at least another 1-2 weeks.

Of course, tubes are easier to cut than plastic bottles.

When I was younger I always thought that my mom was weird for this one. Howevre, it really does save alot. I also like the things that you put on the tubes to squeeze out as much as possible. Great for the kiddos.

I have done this before when I ran out of something and didn't have a spare. I need to do it more often. Thanks!
