I was wondering about the kitchen and bath paint that I have seen at Lowes and Home Depot. I am probably going to use that. I think I am going to do a faux finish like a whitewash technique. I am just trying to figure out what to use for my base color. I know I want to do the top coat in an offwhite color. I saw someones that had a black base and a white whitewash coat. Looked good. We did our kitchen cabinets in crackle paint to give it an older look. It didn't turn out quite like I wanted because I wanted more red, but it does look good.

My dh swears he will only use Home Depot Behr paint from now on. It goes on really well.

We put on a primer (Kilz) then painted on our base coat (Awning Red Home Depot), then put on the crackle coat, then the top coat (Greenwich, an off white), then covered it with polyurethane. It did take a while but was well worth it.

If I did it over I would put the red as the top coat. I'm really into color.
