We did our kitchen cabinets in crackle paint to give it an older look. It didn't turn out quite like I wanted because I wanted more red, but it does look good.
My dh swears he will only use Home Depot Behr paint from now on. It goes on really well.
We put on a primer (Kilz) then painted on our base coat (Awning Red Home Depot), then put on the crackle coat, then the top coat (Greenwich, an off white), then covered it with polyurethane. It did take a while but was well worth it.
If I did it over I would put the red as the top coat. I'm really into color.
