Do you go all out decorating for holidays or decorate just a little?

It's so funny to see others thinking so far ahead like me. I thought I was just too eager. If I had the time and money, I would go allllll out. Since I've had kids, I don't seem to have much of either time or money. It's even more important, now though. I hope I can do more this year.

I love, love, love to decorate, but it is expensive. I try to always buy everything on clearance after the holidays. Sometimes I am burned out, and so sick of that season but I make myself check out the sales any way and I love to pull it out the next year. I spent 75$ last year after Christmas and got 450$ worth of stuff.(75 to 90% off)I got all my Christmas cards, new lights for out side, a wreath for the front door Stuff I had looked at full price, but couldn't afford to buy it full price. I try to make a list of stuff that I need and not buy stuff just because its on sale. Does anyone else do this crazy stuff or is it just me?

I decorate the inside moreso than the outside. We do put up lights and such outside but that's about it.

We are coming into my favorite time of the year. I can't wait for cool crisp nights.

I'm really going to try this after Christmas this year. That and shopping for next year's Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, anniversary, etc. I'd love to decorate more, but with only DH working, the extra money isn't there. I just found out he loves the old victorian style of Christmas (who knew a man would?) so I'm going to keep an eye out for that kind of stuff, as he said he would love to have a really regal elegant Victorian Christmas get-together with friends... so if I can get some stuff, maybe next year we can start that tradition.

All out during the x-mas holidays.

One year... The kids and I would pick up pine cones from ground and wash them out and air dry them. I would buy red ribbons and hot glue them on the pine cones. We hang them on our tree.

I would cut some of the tree branches and find a nice pot or metal pot or vase, place play sand or rocks in the vase or pot to hold the branches in place and hang little plastic ornaments.

We go all out....even put lights in our little fake river bed in our front yard.

It is nice when the neighbors do the same. Everyone takes a stroll/walk around the nieghborhood and see the decorated houses.

We definitely go all out...inside and outside.

I try to put a tree in every room, there is a full size in the spare bedroom and the living room, the kitchen has a blue aluminum tabletop tree, dd's room has a 3 foot tree. We put a TON of lights all over anything standing still in the yard and on the house. I have a collection of vintage Santas that I put out, I also use alot of other vintage Christmas decorations. The inside is more of a classic/vintage theme but the outside is anything goes...the gaudier the better!

The best thing though is my Christmas village. It takes up a whole room! We put a table in all of the corners and connect three of the walls with fiberboard planks that come about 4 feet from the wall and cover everything with vintage white quilts and bedspreads that come to the floor to cover all the wires and cords. My favorites are the Dept. 56 pieces that move...we have a flying Santa and reindeer, Dickens house where the ghosts of Christmas move around, another house where people are dancing, a sledding hill where the sledders go down, ice skating pond, ice skating rink, town square where people walk along. There are also about 85 houses, trees that light up, tons of people, and anything else you can think of! I LOVE it. It takes 4-5 days to set up so we usually have it going before Thanksgiving...It is so time consuming that it seems like a waste to only have it up for a couple of weeks.

For holidays other than Christmas, I only decorate inside..well, Halloween, we do a bit outside...but for Christmas, dh knows that every year, the day after Christmas is MY day. I shop for all the sales for Christmas decoration...and get more and more each year! I LOVE it. Last year, we put up a lighted manger scene...with a real stable that dh made. My kids got the best lessons out of that. My then 20 month old would say "night night" to baby Jesus (in the yard!) each night. It was precious. We do lights all over the house and yard, bows, etc. I like the classic looks, so it is all very tasteful (NO Griswold here!! LOL But, my 17 year old does hate that we always use the big fat colorful bulbs!! She wants discreet little white ones. NO WAY!! LOL I am all about a child's point of view with colors!). Inside, EVERY room is decorated, and we have SIX Christmas trees....a big one for the living room, a medium one for the den, and little ones for each of the kids' bedrooms. We put everything up Thanksgiving weekend, a family tradition, and it is SO much fun. I always make or buy some kind of Christmas countdown activity, too. Usually it is six velvet ribbons hanging on the wall with 24 Hershey's kisses glued on each one. It is a fun way to countdown, and it is a cute decoration to see, too.
