We don't have a dryer so I line dry everything and have a rack inside to dry on as well...seems to work out great! I have not really noticed the stiffness of anything other than jean, and I agree with some other posters that towels seem more absorbant.

A BIG plus is that I am not shrinking my dh's clothes... long story, but we went to my grandmas for 2 wks and she pretty much shrunk all of his things, and he said there was NO WAY he gained weight cuz she is not a very good cook!

I would say I line or rack dry 95% of our loads. I too feel guilty if I need to dry a load! I do through some items in for about 5 or 10 minutes to get wrinkles out but then hang for the rest of the drying.

So do you do laundry every day then? When I do a load or two every day that the weather is nice I can keep caught up, but when I'm busy or we've had alot of rain then I use my dryer. In the winter I rack dry clothes over my forced air vents, but in the other seasons my clothes take too long to dry in the house and occasionally get mildewy before they dry so it has to be outside.

I line dry in my laundry room and anywhere else I can find to hang them. I use my dryer for my towels, sheets, and underclothes. I use Gain fabric softener in my wash so I don't have the stiff feeling to my clothes and they smell soooooooo good.

I line dry if the load isn't too big. My lines need to be replaced soon. They're cotton lines, and they're sagging, and dry rotting, so sometimes the clothes end up dragging the ground, and I hate that!! lol I will line dry everything but my load of whites (socks, undies, & bras). I rack dry my bras inside though, and everything else goes in the dryer. I have bought new line to put up, but Brian's been too busy to put it up (I can't seem to get the knots tight enough), so I've been drying most of our clothes in the dryer lately.

I have to submit to my HOA an example of the clothesline that I would like to put up BUT I don't know which type is better. Any help would be appreciated! I live in FL if that makes a difference at all in your opinion - definitely needs to be hurricane safe.

The umbrella (ClotheslineShop.com: Aluminum Parallel Umbrella Dryer) or the T-post type.
