We thought about it for a tiny bit, but I'm too paranoid about not having a landline for the kids to use in case of an emergency.

Also, I'm in San Diego county and during our recent firestorm, the county used the "reverse-911" call system to notify people to immediately evacuate. Most of those with cell phones only did not receive the reverse-911 call since the system uses landline numbers and those cell phone numbers that had been previously registered.

Most of the residents here didn't know about the reverse-911 system and didn't have their cell phones registered.

We mostly use our cell phones, esp. for long-distance, but still have the land line. I remember the big power outtage a couple years back - the entire NE US. We couldn't reach each other on our cells at all to find out what was happening. Only the land lines worked. We decided we'd keep our land lines as we expect more of that sort of power outtage in the future.
