I have a cell phone and a house phone. Barely anyone calls my house phone, mostly telemarketers and SIL when she wants something. But, I have DSL internet service and have to have a phone for this. Well, I think my house phone is a waste of money but I still want internet. I guess I will have to get cable internet, unless anybody has any other suggestions? P.S. it is costing me about 30 dollars for the phone and 20 for the internet a month.

I did this about two years ago and it saves me $25/month, but I also pay $45/month for cable high speed internet. One option is switching to dial up, there is some out there for $10/month.

But with dial up you still need a land line , and it would be really slow. I would be willing to be slow if I could save on not having a phone line My internet right now only costs me 20 dollars a month and is fast (through AT and T) its the phone line that is costing me more at 30 dollars a month.

AT&T offers stand-alone DSL...I just cancelled my local line yesterday and got stand alone Express DSL w/ them for 23.99...no problem. Have you contacted them to find out of you qualify for stand-alone DSL...if you have DSL w/ them now you *should* be able to have stand-alone DSL.

We got rid of our land line about a year ago. At first my dh wanted to get rid of cell phones. But that didn't make sense to me. I would like to have a phone with me where ever I am. Especially if I get stranded somewhere with the kids. If you look around there aren't too many pay phones anymore. We never go over our minutes and what would normally be long distance on a land line is not on a cell. You just have to be sure to keep it charged. We have cable internet. It's not fast, but not a big deal for me.

I went with the Comcast bundle. Cable, internet and phone for 99 dollars a month. Of course, that is only for a year. I beleive it hikes up to 159 after the first year. After that I will probably switch to something cheaper.

We also have internet service through cable and We love it! I don't think it's that much slower than wireless (at least ours isn't) We still have it, but DH's company pays for it because he works from home. We have ours in a bundle with cable- it saves $$$ for us because DH's company pays a flat fee ($65) for internet each month and our total bill for cable and internet is $78 a month. We have never EVER thought of getting rid of our landline- I am a little to scared to. DH's company pays for his cell phone with unlimited calling each month ( I now have my own as well), but I get nervous to depend on ONLY a cell phone..."what if it isn't charged and there's an emergancy??? What if I need to call 911 and the phone doesn't allow for "tracing a call"??? What if...what if...what if... there are too many "what if's for me" and I am sure that there's no reason to worry, but I just don't trust cell phones as much as most people do...

I know what you mean I am a little scared to cut it off. I don't trust cell phones as much. I am just tired of spending 30 dollars a month so that telemarketers, SIL and occasionally a relative or friend but they mostly call my cell phone to reach me because all of them have cell phones. I am almost thinking of canceling the internet also because I feel like I am on it a little too much. I pay for it myself out of Child Support money. My son never goes without food, clothes or toys but I would like to pay off a CC I have and be able to save more, do more activities with the kids and give to tithes more. It is a hard decision. DH doesn't want to get rid of it so I told him to pay for it himself then. We could always get it back later when I have a part-time job or if he gets a better job. Soon I will have two in diapers as another expense.

We switched to cell phones only several years ago and love it! Now I don't have to field calls from my in-laws and it is DH head if he doesn't call them back - not mine (somehow I got the blame). Also, since I'm normally not home it is easy to reach me no matter what.

We use Verizon FIOS which we love and is the same price as cable in our area for 10x the speed. That is about 45$ a mo but it completely worth it since DH works from home.

He also uses a internet phone (skype) to make work calls so he can use a headset and that is about $30 a year for unlimited calling. I think it is even worldwide.

As for 911 tracing I do worry a bit over that but haven't resolved what to do. I figure once DS gets older we'll have to get a house phone again just *in case*, esp when babysitters are over.
