I dry inside, in my laundry room. DH strung up three rows of clothesline for me and it works out great. I throw stuff in the dryer for a few minutes and then pull it out and line dry it. It's not crunchy and it really reduces wrinkles and cuts down on ironing/starching for Dh's clothes for work.

I line dry when I can. Epsecially t-shirts, and sheets (love to sleep on fresh line dried sheets). I never line dry sweats or towels. They get too crispy. When I do line dry things I hang them out right away, then when they're pretty much dry I put them in they dryer for about 5-10 minutes just to fluff and soften them. Our backyard is fairly private so I don't worry too much about how it looks. I don't hang undies and socks though. Those I dry in the dryer for about 10-15 minutes. They don't need to be dried all the way. Also, where the line is gets some sun sometimes but not enough to fade colors. I wish I had time (and cooperative weather) to line dry everything but unfortunatelyl I do have to put full loads in the dryer often. I agree it does help clothes last longer. Another tip to keep clothes looking new is to be sure you don't overload the washer so things have plenty of room to move around and use a gentle aggitation and shorter cycle. Most things are not dirty enough to need fast aggitation and long cycles. Also be sure not to use too much soap, do a second rinse if you can, and put white vinegar in the final rinse water.

When we bought this house last year I couldn't figure out what all the lines in the attic where but they were clothes lines! It is an unfinished HOT/COLD attic! She also had one in the laundry room and she was 95. I think in theory it's great and when we moved I brought my umbrella clothes line with us. However...I'm trying to just keep up with my housework and since our computers are in the laundry room it's really convenient to do laundry behind me while online. I have NO exscuse for not getting it done I don't like my sheets and jeans on the line. In college we hung the clothes out to dry and it was a running joke in our neighborhood because I swear, every time we hung our clothes out it would rain! I kid you not. We would just get them dry and it would rain again. So much so that we ended up buying the matching dryer to our washer! We were trying to be frugal and only purchased the washer. SO much for THAT! lol my 2 cents. I think EVERYONE should hang their clothes out at least once a summer and appreciate the modern conveniences we have. Sometimes I feel like I loose touch with just how convenient lifeis for all of us now. I think about my grandma with her wash board and wash tub. WOW, I would never leave that spot! lol I feel like I can barely keep up now!

Does this save you enough money to make it worth it? I am not trying to be critical--I was just wondering because our electricity bill was $300 and I have been trying to save . We have wondow units so only trying to run them when need. Up until recently we needed them but I tried to always turn them off at night. I have turned everything I can off at night. I don't use heated dry on me dishwasher trying to use more cold water to wash with. I still wash underwear and socks in hot because I am parnoid of germs. I still need to check the hot water heater and check where it is set. I think it is set too high. I have been thinking about drying my wash in the laundry room. Just wondering what helps to lower that bill?????? What else is electric hogs that I can look into?

I don't dry my shirts or my husband's. I don't dry fancy dresses. I hang them on the shower rod and they are usually dry the next morning. It really keeps things from shrinking and saves on wear. Everything else goes in the dryer though!

Oh how I would love a clothes line! Maybe next spring my husband will get one up for me. For now, just about everything goes in the dryer... except my jeans and khakis, and my son's REALLY nice outfits.
