We have a very old house. Unfortunately, right now we do not have the money to replace the doors and windows so, we are getting ready for winter!!! We have two back doors, one we never use and is very drafty, so we sealed the entire thing off with plastic. We have foam to put around our window air (it is too big to take out) and plastic to cover it on the outside. All of our windows will be covered with the clear plastic that we bought last spring on clearance. We use rolled up towels under all of our doors to stop the draft from coming in. Also, all beds are now sporting flannel sheets and comforters. It is good to have an afghan thrown over the back of the couch too, for those times you get chilly watching tv or reading.

We have had to turn on the heat instead of the AC. It was a very quick transition.

I'll soon be dusting off the wall heaters in the basement to supplement the forced air furnace. The basement never seems to warm up unless I use the supplemental heat.

I'll soon be pulling out the warming mattress cover for our bed. I'm toying with the idea of getting DD (age 6) a warming mattress cover for her bed this year. She might get one for Christmas. Until them I'm thinking of letting her sleep in a sleeping bag so she is less likely to kick off her covers.

I'm also going to re-arrange some the stuff in the kitchen to clear the space around the small wood stove in there. We had to stop using the wood stove when DD came to live with us but I think this year it will be safe to start it up again. I'm not looking forward to shoveling ashes but it would be nice to have a toasty kitchen again.
