Make a "Wish List".

We have a list on the fridge and when one of us wants something new that is not a need it goes on the list. The list is constantly changing as we purchase some of our wants and remove others.

It's great because it gives us time to evaluate whether or not we really want to spend the money on something that looks really neat at the time it goes onto paper.

It also gives us the opportunity to research and price compare to get the best deal on whatever it is we are looking to buy.

Since we have had the list there has been much less impulse buying. Most of the purchases that actually made it into our carts have been good ones and are being used on a regular basis. Other items have been cut from the list when an item we already had was found to be comparable or we just realized we didn't really want it after all.
