Cookie2,

The mulit-floor spray doesn't leave a film or haze on the laminate? I haven't found anything, including vinegar that doesn't streak. It might be that something streaked in the past & I just can't get that up. We bought this house 2 years ago while I was preggo with #2 and I still haven't gotten it completely clean!! The people who lived here before weren't very handy/homemaker type people and had 2 boxers that were inside dogs! I cleaned slobber off of base boards for 2 weeks and I still find some in corners and such.

If you think about it, next time you use the cleaner, could you post the name?

Thanks!!!

I also was wondering what people use on their hardwood floors? I usually use Murphy's Oil Soap. It's o.k....nothing special. I have a friend who used Windex on her hardwood floors! I have never heard of that before! She just pours some on and mops it up. She said it doesn't leave streaks. My hardwood floor are old (probably 90-100 yrs old) and have some spacing between the boards so I wouldn't pour liquid directly on them.

Murphy's is supposed to be the worst thing to use on wood floors. I've never used it personally, but I've just been told that by many people, wood floor refinishers/installers included. You really need to know what kind of floor you have, what kind of finish etc in order to clean it properly.

I used about 5 different types of cleaner, but none of them seemed to get it clean. Any other ideas in case the vinegar doesn't work? The grooves are big enough that the sponge, and scrubbie thingy got into them, it just wasn't getting the dirt out.

Asphalt tiles? I've never heard of that...

When you say "grooves" do you mean the grout area?

A mop might just not be enough 'power' to clean certain areas. When we lived in Switzerland, our house had large tiles with wide grout lines and I really had to do it by hand, on my hands and knees, with a scrub brush. The mop just did not work.

We have HW floors & I've also been told to never use murphy's on them. My mom used vinegar & water and I do too. I simply mix it in a spray bottle, spray it on the HW floor & mop with a damp mop. You are not supposed to use a lot of moisture on wood floors.

No one has ever said anything to me about Murphy's being bad to use! Did they say why it's bad? Do you think it matters on an old floor? They do look kinda dull...is that what happens with the Murphy's?

With using the vinegar, how do you clean out your mop in between wipes? Do you rinse it in water?

You don't rinse...you just use a bucket of water and vinegar. I don't measure it because I've been doing it so long, you probably can find the dilution online if you google or maybe someone here will see it and give more specifics. I wring out the mop really well in between, so you don't get the floor sopping wet (something else you shouldn't do with wood floors).

Murphy's does leave a residue and it's just not recommended for wood floors.

When I use a mop, I put 1 cup of vinegar per 1 gallon of water.

But what I usually do is get on my hands and knees and spray my 50% vinegar and 50% water spray bottle over a section, then wipe it with a clean towel. (I bought a packet of white terry cloth shop towels that I use for cleaning only.)

Another tip--before I "scrub" the floors, I go around with a plastic paint scraper and scrape up any hard, caked on whatever that I may have missed during my daily clean.
