My place is always picked up and clean. Im always ready for someone to come over.
But I live in a gated apt complex they cant really sneak up on me cause they have to call my home for me to let them in. The only time they can sneak in is if they happen to be coming in when someone is leaving.

I haven't read the response - but my house is never completely organized. It is clean, but depending on the time of the unannounced guest will depend on how many toys are scattered around.

I hate having dishes in the sink, so that will always be picked up. Beds are normally made in the morning after we wake up. The office is normally a drop zone so that door is closed and we rarely have to take anoyone in there.

Now that we are redoing the 2 baths and the office, I am hoping it will stay clean and organized for the type of home you are describing. If not, oh well. My time with my kids is more important.

my house is usually clean, but not always picked up...My goal is to always have the downstairs bathroom clean, so that whenever I have guests I won't worry about it.

I would love to have a "drop by anytime" house -- I grew up in one!

YOu mention base? I'm a military spouse, are you?

I could pull it together in about 20-30 mins. probably, earlier in the day, maybe less. But then I only have dh and ds and myself. But that is to pull it together, our master closet is hardly organized, it just becomes my dumping ground!

MusicMouse said it all for me, people come to see you and your family, not count the dust bunnies floating around the house (thats the theory I operate by anyhow)

My home is a train station and thats the way I like it, with two boys (well one and a half now Tadhg is in Galway) there is alway their friends coming and going and thats the way I like it. its the same for me.

You will take me and my home as you find it when you drop in, sometimes me in my dressing gown if its a day I dont have to work outside the home or have to be somewhere

My home is always clean, not always tidy, because it is our home not a showhouse, and I always said we would have open house so if you dont like it you need not come again

so far I havent had anyone run out the door. I guess it comes down to how welcome you can make someone feel, and thats the important thing for me

My home definitely has a lived in look. It will never be completely spotless. I just don't have the time or energy! But it's not that bad. It is cluttered, but not dirty. My best friend, on the other hand, keeps her house spotless. You could drop by her house anytime and never find anything, even toys, out of place. No dust, dirty dishes, nothing. But she is constantly behind her 3 year old dd and dh cleaning. Like I said, I don't have the time or energy!
