I think I remember reading somewhere that rates for electricity are lower in the evenings as opposed to the middle of the day. Does anyone know if that's true? I use my dryer quite a bit and I was thinking that I should start using it in the evenings after dinner if that's the case.

It depends on your electric company. In our old house we had a lower rate for off peak hours and I always ran my washing machine and dishwasher at night and then my dryer early in the morning. We did see a drop in our bills. The rate for peak hours sent up in increments, too, during the summer. If you used more the rate was higher, so we did as much during the off peak hours as possible.

Where we live now, though, they do not do that - it is one rate all the time. YOu should be able to find the info on your bill or call your company to find out.

It does depend on your individual electric company. Here, we have to sign up for the program (and there's even an administrative fee!). My average savings during the summer months (my highest bills, due to the A/C use) is about $20 when all is said and done. So make a call to your electric company.
