Not only does Downy w/ water in a spray bottle work great for freshening home & vehicle, when mosquito season hits in the South, it is GREAT for insect repellent; smells great on clothes and body, and repels mosquitos without the strong chemicals the commercial insect repellents have in them.

You can rig up a small satchet to hang or tape to the inside of the filter (the side toward the actual duct). Your smell will mix with the intake air and then be pushed back out thru your vents. You can, of course put them over your vents. I got this idea when I saw Home Depot selling little bags of satchets that you adhere to the filters they were selling.

I think I misspelled that.

When we were renting a house with a wood stove last year, I would place a pot filled with water and potpurri on the stove. (It had a flat portion that lifted up, so I had a good surface for a pot). The place smelled like apples and cinnamon while the fire was going. It was great. It also helped with adding some moisture to the air. Not sure what to do now. I either have to keep buying candles or use the gas stove for the same effect. I'll have to look at the tips for the house we bought.

My Wal-Mart (in Texas) no longer carries Mainstay French vanilla car freshners. They have other scents (which I don't care for) but not French vanilla. Where do you find them? Have you purchased them recently? I've even tried to find them online, with no success.

I take some distilled water in a spray bottle and put only a few drops of lavender of another esssential oil and spray the house. you can add the fabric softner and make a lavender febreeze too. I also take baking soda, add essential oil or fragrance oils (clean linen or lavender usually) to it (mix well. it forms clumps) and shake on carpet, let sit and vacuum it up. safe for kids and smells so clean. and FRUGAL! lol I get baking soda for 34 cents a lb at one of the grocers here that has lots of bulk bins.

Run some baking soda in the garbage disposal if that's the source of the stink. If you want a bigger aroma, run orange peels, coffee grounds, etc.

My garbage disposal was smelling, despite my using Disposer Care and other fixes.

I finally got the idea to really clean it. I put on my rubber gloves (VERY important - this stuff is nasty). I removed the rubber stopper (you know, the upside down dome in the drain. It was so gross! I could see there was moldy gunk on it and around the walls of the opening beneath it. The disposer itself was pretty clean, save for the upper part of the walls.

I put some bleach w/ a little water in the drain to sit for a minute (you could corrode your disposer if it sits too long, and started cleaning the stopper w/detergent, bleach and a toothbrush. I just went to town on it, and then rinsed it, setting it aside. I then did the same with the disposer walls.

I had a fresh-smelling drain! I wish I could get to the one next to it, but as you know, that stopper is metal.

I now do this cleaning every week, or every two weeks to keep on top of it. I throw out the toothbrush, since we go through new ones every three months.

Very economical!

I have the same problem with a lot of scents causing asthma attacks. I had to quit wearing perfume a decade or more ago and last year I had to make DH switch to unscented antiperspirant because I coughed every time he hugged me! What I have discovered is that 'food' scents don't bother me. I can tolerate vanilla well and cinnamon and I love sugar cookie candles, but they make me want to eat! No floral scents: I had to leave a store last week because someone was wearing gardenia-yuk!
