How do you keep your home smelling good while being frugal?

Everyone loves a warm & yummy smelling home

Instead of expensive candles, I buy vehicle air freshener @ Wal Mart (from their Mainstays product line) and the cost is a frugal $1.78. The packet contains 3 individually wrapped fresheners, so I will place them in tight fitting areas or all three in a large living room. The smell lasts for about two weeks and when I have the heater on it only intensifies.
I like the French Vanilla scent and it smells just like a candle...sans the fire hazard!

i buy candles on sale at bath body works or with coupons like for those yummy new glade ones. i love candles and for me this is frugal. i used to buy only candles from partylite or something like that so these candles i get now are way cheaper. also i love the wallflowers from bath body works.and i only buy them when on sale .the refills i get 2 for $5 and they last a month each

I just buy the Glade Solid air freshners. I like the vanilla or raspberry. They are very cheap and I use them throughout the house. I don't like candles because it scares me to have things burning.

If I have company coming over or something, I will boil some cinnamon and water and then let it simmer for a while. I think it smells so good.

I love to do this too...especially in the Fall and Winter!! Just makes your house smell so good...like you've been cooking up a storm!!

I like the idea of the car freshners!! I bet they'd be cheaper at Dollar General though. I think the last ones I got from there were 3 for $1...

I also like to make my own "Fabreeze"...I put fabric softner in a spray bottle w/a bit of water, then spray the fabrics, carpet, furniture, curtains, etc. Doesn't harm them any, and makes the house smell great!!

I have also been known to make my own carpet freshner - mix baking soda and cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice, etc....Wouldn't do it with crawling children around though.

I never thought about the homemade fabreeze...Great idea

I think if I keep on top of the cleaning. The house will smell fresh without the need for candles. Like having all the laundry done, garbage emptied and taken outside. Vinegar stinks, but once it dries, it leaves the house fresh.
I like the smell of things after I use bleach. Not a lot of it, just a little drop in the cleaning solution. Too much smells like fritos in my opinion.
That said, I do like other scents. I get a couple votive candles as a treat when they go on sale. Other than that, I boil cinnamon, cloves or orangle peels.

I agree with you. Since I have begun taking the trash out every evening, taking dirty diapers outside right away and sweeping the floors every night, I think I have noticed a difference. On the vinegar, I have noticed that once it dries, the house smells better than with chemical cleaners.

I have not tried the "make your own febreze" yet, but tomorrow is my dollar store trip and I planned on getting a spray bottle for that.
