I've always heard that you need to switch your ceiling fans at the change of the weather so that in winter, the fan is blowing warm air and in summer the fan is blowing cool air. This is supposed to help a little on your heating bill. I never could remember which way was which, but I read a book last week that said counter-clockwise in fall/winter and clockwise in spring/summer.
This morning I dusted the fans (must be done before you switch them, unless you want clumps of dust and yuck all over--although it is pretty easy to just vacuum up, lol) and switched our fans to counter-clockwise and almost instantly I could tell the difference.
This is an old tip, we've all heard it, but I thought I would share.
