I also find the kit at a home place to turn the dryer into a heating duct. It takes the excess heat which would be going outside and routes it inside plus it is also usually damp to add some moisture to the air. You do it once and you can turn it off or on. It is great!!!

I haven't gotten them yet, but you can buy foam things that fit behind you electrical outlets to block drafts from getting in. My dh usually puts plastic around the outside foundation and some sort of banking material (last year he used boughs from trees...it looked nice in the winter time). We have never done the plastic thing but I want to try it this year.

Hi! We just paid $2.69 a gallon for our oil two weeks ago and a neighbor and friend just paid over $3.00 this week! We have the original windows still so we put storm windows over them and we use our wood burning stove. We buy the wood by the log, which is alot cheaper than buying the stumps to save money. My friend also recommended trying Biofuel if it is available.

We found a company recently that installs something called radiant barrier. It is like a sheet of tin foil that goes over the insulation in your attic. They claim that it will save from 20-40% on your heating and cooling bills. We were skeptical with the $1500 price tag but did some research and decided to install it ourselves. We paid about $150 and spent an afternoon installing it ourselves. You only need a pair of scissors to cut it and a staple gun if you want. We have not had it in long enough yet to know if it made that signifigant a difference on the bill but we have noticed a signifigant difference in the comfort level in our second story. We are crossing our fingers that our small investment will reap big rewards.

We also installed a timer on our water heater and it only allows the water heater to run for 10 hours each day. It has saved us small amounts on our bill that will add up over time. The timer only cost us $25 and about 15 minutes to install.
