I have a silver cross my parents got me years ago that I LOVE...well, it's looking a little tarnished and I don't have any jewelry cleaner (Or ammonia) handy, so I looked it up homemade cleaner on-line...One came back with :

1 liter hot water
1 tablespoon fabric softener
1 tablespoon salt
1 sheet aluminum foil

It said to immerse the jewelry on the foil and it will become clean in 10 seconds...I was doubtful, but as I have ingredients on hand...I figured what the heck! I immersed the necklace and cross, and rubbed it a little....It looks BRAND NEW!!! I rinsed very well (Salt can pit some metals) ...I thought I'd pass it on.....

This trick also works with hot water, baking soda and aluminum foil: put the foil in the bottom of a pan and add some baking soda (1-2 tsp), then add water and bring to a boil. Put your jewlery in- it's like magic!
