I read the tightwad gazette about how it's less expensive to use the dishwasher(they dedicated a large section to this subject). I also was told by my kids Dr. that the temp. of the water kills more germs and the family is less likely to get sick as often if washed in there. I don't use the dry cycle & it is only run every other day. I do run a small amount of soapy water in the sink to wash pans and wipe down the counters. But If I read anything in my favor I tend to go with that

I use the dishwasher for everything but, pots and pans, and my crockpot. I run it everynight.

When we first bought our house it didn't have a dishwasher . For the first 2 years of living here I washed dishes by hand and now try taking my dishwasher away! NO WAY! We bought a maytag and I must say..its doing a very good job cleaning our dishes. We do splurge on casade total complete. I will say this though...washing dishes by hand is quite relaxing and kept me toasty in the winter. Still I am going to use my handy dandy dishwasher.

I hate doing dishes. Probably because it seems I'm in the kitchen all day long. But it's all handwashing here. Not by choice though. The way our kitchen is set up there was no way to add a dishwasher.

I have also heard this about the water temp being better in the dishwasher for germs.
I use the dishwasher daily and will do it every other day if not full.

I only handwash--MIL was going to get me a dishwasher but I can do them faster by hand. And I see no point in washing them to run then in a dishwasher--just wash them altogether , but thats just me.
