boric acid and mint jelly... the sweet smell of the mint jelly draws the ants to it and the boric acid kills them... not instantly but the take it to their nest and they start to disappear shortly after.... mix it up and put a little bit in the corners of the area on a little piece of cardboard. (where your kids and animals can't get it)

Put a little bit of cornmeal where you see the ants the most. They take it bake to their hill and can't digest it.Within a week of doing this you shouldn't have an ant problem.I suggested this to my mother and so far it is working.

I just heard about the cornmeal today at work...try it, good luck! I did want to add that if they are the big big ants, they might be carpenter ants...while you may get rid of them, carpenter ants eat wood, so you need to find out where they are coming from, they prob have a nest and will continue to eat the wood until you kill them (the poison may be your only option here), and once you get rid of the rotten wood. Check decks, etc., anywhere that wood might be rotting. Good luck!

We have ants every spring, but when I put baby powder in a thin line along the walls where they're most evident, they're soon gone. The downside to this is that baby powder is most definitely poisonous for kids. The upside is that it's cheap, works (at least on NC ants), and smells nice, too. But again, with small kids, you may want to explore other alternatives. Good luck!

I'm also concerned about the SIZE of the ants. I recommend capturing one and taking it to your local University Extension office to have their bug expert look at it. It might be 'just an ant' at all. It could be a sign of bigger trouble. If the bugs have swarmed and are looking for a new home - your home! - you might benefit from knowing the proper corrective action to take now.

Hardware stores have boric acid and you probably could find it at the grocery in the pest control section...though I have had wonderful luck with ant homes...I just sit one on the window sill closest to where the ants are coming in and before I know it...they are all gone!! I have also heard that if you plant geraniums around the foundation of your house the ants will not cross the line of flowers.

Would you like some coffee with your ants? One morning recently I went to spoon some sugar in my coffee and their was an ant in it! Yesterday I kept feeling a sort of pinchy feeling and it was an ant biting me!

I have an ant problem too. I haven't gotten around to fixing the solution, but I have had it, and I am going to get rid of them. They were just around the sink, but my little one has had a couple crawling on her, and she freaks out. Plus, I went to pour her a bowl of her favorite cereal, and it had a few dead ants in it. Now I am going to have to check all the cereal. The grossest part, I had just stuck my hand it the box and ate one cheerio before I poured her bowl.
