Ive never had an ant problem of any kind!! We have been in our new home for 1 month now, and a few days ago I spotted a big black ant! And this weekend suddenly it seems they are popping up everywhere!! I bought the raid little black ant trap things, BUT STILL THERES ANTS AND ANTS!! It really is giving me goosebumps and a creepy feeling as I type this now....My fiance is going to buy spray when he gets off work I hate the thought of spraying that stuff with the girls breathing it in. What can I do??

Terro Ant Killer is awesome. It takes several days to get rid of them all but you put this goey killer on some cardboard and put the cardboard where you see them most and they are attracted to something sweet in the goey. Anyway they take it back to their colony and eventually no more ants. Works great. Plus no sprays to get on stuff and you can keep the cardboard out of little hands reach.

I just had this problem. It is gross. I used the Terro as some ladies suggested, then I sprinkled Boric acid around the perimeter outside the house. The problem has improved a lot. Good luck.

We had to battle the big black ants last year and we had a hard time getting rid of them until we did the Terro. The cardboard gooey stuff worked, but then they came back again, and again. We finally did the Terro dust/powder. I HATED using it (I try not to use chemicals and this is like the worst kind!), we had a baby crawling at the time, but we only used it in places she could not reach and I mopped daily. The ants were gone within a few days and they didn't come back again.

Good luck, they give me the heebie-jeebies! LOL

This is an interesting post because for the last week I have been batteling ants as well, although mine are the tiny ones, not the big ones, I have been using raid and do know that boric acid helps too, but do be careful as these are highly poisonous to children and pets as well, if you have any. Good luck hope you and get rid of them, I am just hoping this is a sign of spring!?!...lol!

Last time we had ants, I read somewhere about boric acid and syrup, and tried that, and it worked well, takes a week or two for it to reach the whole colony.

You just mix together some syrup/honey/etc... and boric acid and place small "blobs" on cut up cardboard pieces, and place them in various places, like under appliances, window sills, etc...

Here is some info I found, copy-and-pasted-

# 1 level teaspoon boric acid.

# ½ cup corn syrup or honey.

# Mix boric acid and honey/syrup.

# Heat until boric acid is dissolved.

# Cool completely. You dont want to burn yourself!

# Mix equal parts water and syrup boric acid mixture.

# Place a small amount of mixture in a lid or use an eyedropper to put a small amount of bait where ants will find it.

# Be sure to keep bait available to ants for 2 weeks.

# Keep bait mixtures out of the reach of children and pets.

I've had the little tiny ones but not the big black ones. I feel for you. That would totally creep me out too. I know that wiping vinegar on my surfaces and floor around my back door helped stop mine. I also sprayed bug spray outside the door where they were getting in. Good luck to you. I hope you can get them under control.

They have gotten worse!! These things BITE!! I thought it was my imagination since they are just 'regular' ants, but after looking it up Im not insane! I was going to buy the stuff to kill them but with my youngest exploring EVERYTHING and a little TOO quick sometimes I held back, BUT NOW I can NOT deal anymore. I bought the little black raid things for the ants and put a couple around the house but they are not working. They worked GREAT here at work but not at home. Im going to try the boric acid and put them like under the t.v. stand and under the fridge ect. Ive read about chalk lines and cayenne pepper which Im going to go buy after work.Im going at it full force! I do not really want to spray chemicals at home its my absolute last resort.Any other ideas? I read on here clean my surfaces with vinegar, should I dilute it any? I only have white vinegar will that work? I also seen something about Peppermint that they hate that, anyone know about that?? Thank You again Mamas
