I really want to start getting into decorating, and so I've been researching the decorating magazines online, trying to figure out which one to buy. I thought I'd found a good one - Decorating Spaces. I then proceeded to try to find the best price for it, but then found out that they will cease printing in October. It sounded like a great magazine, really just decorating, affordably. Does anyone currently subscribe to it and could they point me toward something similar?

I really liked Kim Danger's tips on how to decorate Pottery Barn style within your own budget. I love their books, I never thought to try to copy the catalog! You don't have to buy the catalog, do you?

Thanks for your help!
Jen

No, you don't have to buy the catalog. You should be able to get one for free at their store or if you don't live closeby just go to their website and request one potterybarn.com. Other catalogs to request: Pier1, Crate and Barrel, Ballard Designs, Company Store, Land of Nod (for kids), etc. I also get tons of ideas from the IKEA catalog. I always pick that catalog up in-store but they do have a great website too ikea.com.
I watch tons of HGTV to get ideas too. All free ways of getting inspiration!

While Better Homes and Gardens magazine isn't strictly for decorating, I really enjoy using it for new ideas. You can read it for free at your local library, and they also have great slide-shows on their website (bhg.com). The drawback to bhg's website is the constant java-ad asking you to subscribe, but if you're on a mission to find window dressing ideas (for instance) for free, their ideas can't be beat and the ad can be ignored!
I'll second Kim's suggestions for catalogs to browse for ideas -- Ballard is my absolute favorite.

It depends on what your style is but I really like the magazine "Domino". It has great ideas, on different budgets etc

You might try going to a bookstore or library and thumbing thru a few different magazines and see if any really click with you, or maybe just buy a few and see what you think.

Thank you everyone for all of your responses, and advice! I followed up on quite a few of the tips. There was a link for the Pottery Barn catalogs right on their website, hopefully I'll get it soon. I also browsed the bookstore to check out their magazines, and decided to subscribe to Traditional Home and Architectural Digest. Off to check out the Better Homes and Gardens website now

I'm not sure about the magazines you listed, but I love the "Trends" magazines i.e. Bathroom Trends, Kitchen Trends, etc. They have much less advertising then the other ones do, but only come out 2x a year and they are $10 each. I am really into "clutter free" and I love the austere looks that are showcased in the Trends magazines.

I find Google to be of some help when I am researching interior design ideas. For example, I will do a google image search of say "kitchens" then, you can see a whole lot of different kitchen images!

www.msn.com has a good home decor link with great pictures too.

When I buy magazines, I will cut out and save any pictures that have neat ideas in them. Then, I keep them all in a binder for future reference. It is fun to do, and really helps when I am throwing a bunch of ideas together.
