I know many of you have your own tips for eliminating clutter in your homes, cars, offices and storage areas.

Please share something you've tried that really works for you.

Deal with it immediately - don't delay making a decision on something. I handle the snail mail every day - it either goes to the bill file, the recycle bin, or wherever else it belongs. No leaving it lie on the counter!

1) Have a deadline. Schedule the thrift truck to come then give them something to pick-up.

2) Have a place for the stuff to go. Get an old cardboard box and mark it "give away". Once it is in the box, it doesn't come back. Set up a garbage bag for the stuff you have to throw away.

we have a box on top of the dryer and we all put stuff in it we no longer want or need.it fills up fast then gets bagged and goes out the door fast too. and i agree that it should not come in at all.

Don't be a collector of "knick knacks"

Go through the mail each day - next to your recycle bin

Make a drive by of the Goodwill Donation Center (ours actually has a drive through) and make a donation.

Clean out your clothes at the beginning of each season. Limit yourself to 7 tops and 7 bottoms.

Make kids go through toys before birthdays and christmas - donate or sell them on ebay.

Don't save stuff for a yard sale "someday". We are very lucky to have Purple Heart come about once every six weeks for pickups, so we always have a box in the laundry room to fill with stuff we don't need. However, in our old town we kept our box in the trunk of the car - we would take stuff out to the car as soon as it was collected. That way if we happened to be in town near the Salvation Army or the Clothes Closet we could drop it off immediately.
