Do you use a certain product, baking soda, cut up an orange or lemon?

How do you combat the smells that are sometimes left behind?

I cut up a lemon and run the disposal for 45 seconds with HOT water running, and once I turn the disposal off, leave the HOT water running for another 45 seconds so that whatever residue was splattered on the side by the disposal gets rinsed out with the HOT water.

I don't have a garbage disposal, but I use baking soda washed down with vinegar in my drains when it gets a bit smelly.

I actually use hot water and just a tiny squirt of my dish soap.

I don't have a problem with odor...

Are you making sure it's completely empty every few days or so? I imagine food stuck in there could/would cause odors.

I run two full glassfuls of icecubes down my disposal (while the cold water is running) every few days...it get every little bit to go down for me.

I use some sort of citrus fruit, and grind it up in there (usually after making margaritas, haha) and then scrub the flappy cover part with a toothbrush and baking soda.

I agree.

I make sure to run the disposal every few days with icecubes. I was told it sharpens the blades and helps keep the system efficient. If the blades mash the food instead of chop it you can wind up with waste down there that doesn't fully wash away.

Try the ice. Every once in a while I will put a lemon or orange peel down there too because I like the smell!!

The easiest way I have found is to run the disposal when the dishwasher is draining. It seems to have almost cured the problem. Sometimes I have to add ice and baking soda but that isn't very often anymore.
