What do you use as anti-virus software? Adware/spyware? We have Macaffee and I hate it. It doesn't seem like its doing its job. I know I have a virus on my computer (I've been using my parent's for the past week because of it) but it won't pick it up.

Are there any free ones out there?

I've been using AVG Free for many years with no problems.

Other great free programs are:
Ad Aware (Lavasoft) --I noticed they're now offering antivirus free too, but have never used it.

SUPERAntiSpyware

Spybot Search & Destroy --didn't work on my vista system for some reason, perhaps they've updated this now.

Spyware Blaster

We use AVG Free version. It works great and never had any problems with it. And for spyware/adware we use SuperAntiSpyware. It's the best one I've ever used.

We had Norton for years and loved it but tried to upgrade the service a couple months ago and couldn't get it to install on our computer. After several days of frustration we got a refund and downloaded ThreatFire. I've been happy so far. Initially we just used the free service, but upgraded a month or so ago to their $30/year service. We've also used McAfee in the past and hated it.

I had this downloaded on my parents computer when I was still at home. Their computer ended up having to go into the shop and the guy said that it deleated some important files by mistake and that its not a good software.

I think I might try the antivirus you reccommended that the SUPERAntispyware.

Any other thoughts out there?

Thanks ladies for your imput!

I had McAfee last year and hated it! My computer was bogged down and would lock up all of the time and I had to restart a couple times a day. I deleted it and am using AVG for free and I love it! No problems what-so ever and the problems I was having disappeared after McAfee was deleted. I highly suggest it!

I use Panda on both my computers. One has VISTA and the other is XP. I've never had a problem. It doesn't hog as much memory as Norton did.
