My son left the PlayStation 3 controller on the floor and I tripped over it and broke it! My husband decided to replace it with Two! controllers at $55 each so he and my son could play together. Lesson learned: pick it up! Have you ever broken/ruined something because it wasn't in its proper place?

Years ago, dd left the camera that she had used for a school trip in the floor by the bar. I got up in the middle of the night and step on it.

Instead of me buying one, she had chores to do to earn money to replace it herself. This taught her to take care of stuff, and put stuff up where it belonged.

I can't tell you the number of times I've organized the garage. Being the only adult in the family with an investment in same, it didn't last.

Until I backed out of the garage one day. Quarters were tight, and I hit the side-view mirror on the frame. I'm so grateful for "breakaway" side view mirrors because all that broke was the glass. And the weed whacker, that hadn't been put away right and got backed over. DH doesn't seem too concerned about that either...one less task he has to avoid doing. But he did put some hours in on the garage.

I'm not sure about the lesson your son learned. Maybe he now knows that if he does wrong then daddy will rescue him - and even reward him.

I totally agree, except: my son is 4 years old. Not that he doesn't understand the concept of treating his toys responsibly, but my husband had just introduced him to video games, and I didn't think to cover the "put it away when you're done with it" thing. So I feel like this one was my fault.
But yes, my hubby's desire to immediately replace or upgrade anything that is worn/broken/not the latest and greatest is where we go head to head most often.

Well, not quite sure if this qualifies so something not being up away.

I had a beautiful pair of eyeore slippers. You know the ones with the eyeore head on the top of the slipper. I was doing some editing with my camcorder when the phone rang. You got it. The cord was caught around eyeore's head and the camcorder fell to the floor. We had it repaired but it didn't last too much longer. Had to buy a new one. No more eyeore slippers.
