Thank goodness for my dh...he saves us alot by doing 99% of the car stuff~oil changes, rotates tires, puts on brakes etc.

How about you? Got a "Handy Husband"?

He does oil changes and all that, I do small engine repairs for our stuff, and we have a great friend who is a certified mechanic for a large dealership that does work on the side at his house (has a hydraulic hoist and all tools there) for SUPER cheap - like half the price or less of a "real" mechanic shop. It rocks!

No - not car stuff like that. He's a car fan, but we will not do that sort of work ourselves. It's not easy to dispose of the used oil around here and, after all my years working at GM customer assistance, I learned that if you cannot prove the car was maintained (receipts for oil changes), if you have a problem with the car later on, you will not receive any assistance from the manufacturer if you have a problem after the warranty is out. If you go to the dealer for minor maintenance issues, they will stand by you if you need post-warranty work.

DH and I do not do our own work on our vehicle. The only exception is changing a dead battery.

DH has a plan with his car where the dealer changes the oil (and washes the car) at no additional cost. We take our van to the dealer to change oil.

I also agree with calimari. For extended warranties, etc., they usually want to see that the car has been maintained.

My husband cleans both vehicles and changes the oil, but that is all we do ourselves concerning repairs/maintenance!

Dh does everything. Since we've been married the only time we 'hired' out was to replace the windshield on the car.

No. Dh used to change the oil, but then you have to deal with disposing of the used stuff and that is a real pain. Plus oil changes are realitively cheap and they check for other needed repairs too. We have 12 free oil changes that we got when we bought our van, so the dealer does that. Dh found a mechanic he likes who does everything for his old car.
