Anyone got any ideas? I was wondering if putting something like a shower curtain attached to the back of curtains would work? In my DS' room, he has two big windows (I guess they'd be considered double) anyway, it would take atleast 4 panels to do his room. I really need blackout because he's not napping during the day like he should. Anyone got any inexpensive ideas??? Thanks in advance

If this is just for naptime, you could drape a blanket or beach towels over the windows.

For something more permanent, you could add blackout shades. JCpenney usually has some in the clearance section.

I ended up going really "ghetto" but since DD's window faces a big field and no one can see it, I ended up opening the top window of her window, and sticking a heavy blanket in there, and shutting it (similar to like sticking a towel in a car window and closing the window on it. It's one of those warm fuzzy soft blankets, and totally no see through. Actually I think it's considered a throw. I dunno.

I actually have a light quilt hanging up for a window covering for her room, but that let the light through. I just have the heavy blanket behind it. The quilt is held up by sewing loops into the back, and hanging those on the hooks that would have held curtains (the previous owners took the curtains, DH never replaced them when he moved here.)

Lowes has really cute, affordable and interchangeable (color coordinated) roman shades. Both of our boys have them. They were less than $20 per shade! Easy to assemble and like I said, you can change out the colors if you wanted to.

I got a cute quilted bedspread at a garage sale, and cut it to fit the window plus enough for a hem on the sides and bottom, and to make a pocket on the top. Then sewed it up and put it on a tension rod (about $2 at Walmart). It can be pulled out when not in use, but I usually just flop the bottom up over the tension rod to let in light and air.

I just got some cheap denim panels at Walmart. They work great for keeping out the light.

I think your best option is to get black-out roller shades and hide them behind the current window dressing.

That was my plan......but when I went to WalMart, because he has double windows one that was big enough was $30 each...or $60 for both windows. Way too expensive! They had blackout curtains (white) for $25, which would have been $50. They also had these peel & stick accordian type things to put on the windows for $5.88 each which I would need 4. I bought them (just got back) and my DH is taking a nap so when he wakes I'm going to see if that will work. If so, it will cost about $24. Still not as cheap as I would like....but I couldn't find any "Blackout" fabric at walmart for $3/yrd like I had heard some talk about. Thats the only fabric store in my small town....

Has anyone ever used those accordian peel & stick curtain things? Do they work to take out almost all the light??

$20 is that for a standard window, is it more for a larger?? Do you remember?

A friend of mine has cut out black cardboard to fit the window and props them up behind the curtain at naptime. cheap and works. when she doesn't need them she hides them in her ds closet!
