Layers! Throw on an extra sweatshirt, and a thermal underneath too!

I also wear those thicker socks with slippers.

We cover every window and even our sliding glass door (eventually) with the plastic. (those hair dyer warmer kits)

I shove a rolled towel under the door cracks, too. It's also an extra security thing at night!

Of course piling on the blankets and clothing layers... Cook lots of things in the oven and keep it open after you turn it off. Drink lots of tea and hot chocolate. Have sex! Do yard work or errands to get you out of the house (55 degrees outside is warm, but inside it's freezing!!). Wash dishes--having your hands in the warm water warms you up. Vacuum--that always helps me, too.

Lots of crockpot cooking; slow cook stuff in the oven, then open it to let the heat out; if you have nylons that look like they're gonna tear, wear those under your clothes; wear a beanie; and drink lots of warm beverages.

I never turn my heat on until mid-Novemeber, later if we can stand it. Plus I like the windows open during the day, just a crack when it is too cool, for fresh crisp air. I do what most of you do. We always wear socks and come fall I make (or try to make I should say) everyone wear slippers. We wear warmer clothes and when sitting around watching tv at night we cuddle up with blankets. I put an extra blanket at the foot of the beds in case anyone needs them at night. We also like drink hot tea, hot cocoa and the kids LOVE hot apple cider. Just last night I sat outside with a blanket around my shoulders and my hot cocoa and listened to the rain. I LOVE fall!!!

We recently bought a house that has a wood pellet burner in the basement. For $2 worth of pellets, we can burn for 12 hours, and that'll keep the house warm this time of year for a few days. We're trying to make it to November, too.

*We have electric blankets under out sheets. When we go up to put our jammies on we turn the beds on and when we go to bed we turn them off.
*keep blankets on the couch
*open all the blinds and curtains to let the sun heat the house during the day
*reverse the direction of your fan, to push the hot air back down
*keep a pot of hot tea or beverage available.
*take hot baths or showers in the evening, the heat will help warm you and the house.
*leave the door of your oven and dishwasher on after use.
*leave the laundry room door open when drying clothes.
*my dh has little hair and wear a knitted hat.
*wear a long robe
*lots of layers
*get up and move
